With winter now upon us, the Almost Home – Humanitarian Design competition is calling for designs that not only provide temporary comfort for the homeless population of the world’s cities but also explore long-term solutions to help the homeless get off the streets and reintegrate into society.
Although much depends on government policy, funding and volunteer work, the designers of the competition are confident that intelligent design can make a possible contribution to the rehabilitation process and challenge designers and architects to submit their ideas for the rehabilitation of the homeless in a specific urban setting this winter.
Designs should be architecture or product-based, and consider such aspects as community, security, interaction, integration, urban fabric, urban significance, independence and interdependence. All participants must register and submit their proposals by Sunday, January 15, 2012.
