LiveIN 10: The ecological impact of building materials

by Brittan on Monday, 24th January 2011 in Live In

The World Health Organization (WHO) has determined that indoor air pollution, which is caused by a variety of substances, is now even higher than outdoor pollution. Since 1983, the WHO has recognized a condition known as “sick building syndrome” and describes the main symptoms that it can cause.
Many construction material manufacturers are trying to do something about it, researching solutions that tend to limit the negative effects of “chemical” products on the environment and human health.
Technokolla, a leading producer of construction finishes and sealants, has recently launched a new product, POWERCOLOR, a cement sealant that actively prevents the formation of fungi, bacteria and mould.
In order to make environmentally-conscious choices based on “overall quality,” different factors relating to a product’s lifecycle should be considered, selecting the products and materials that  reflect greater environmental compatibility while performing equally as well. This represents a step forward in the production of healthier, more eco-friendly materials.
