Over the past few years, attention to environmental issues has continued to grow.
Among these are the over-exploitation of the Earth’s natural resources, the mass production of new products to satisfy the growing demands of consumers, and the lack of sustainability of the present production and consumption models.
This awareness has often translated into advertising campaigns promoting the sale of ecological products.
Companies of all sizes have seized the opportunity to create new product lines which cater to environmentally-conscious consumers.
Vehicles, mobile devices, household appliances, clothes, furnishings, and much more have suddenly become "green".
How can we be certain that a product is truly eco-friendly?
A product’s sustainability is determined by the materials, production processes, transportation, consumption, and disposal that it requires throughout its lifecycle.
This approach, which considers the environmental impacts of the product during its entire lifecycle in its design, is what we call eco-design. Consumers should be “informed” and "educated".
Consumers should also be enabled to recognize, compare, and choose the social and environmental value of a product.
