Porcelaingres, porcelain stoneware for sustainability

by Christiane Burklein on Wednesday, 11th January 2012 in Materials
Porcelaingres, a member of the Graniti Fiandre Group, produces porcelain stoneware tiles in a decidedly “green” plant.

The Porcelaingres factory in Vetschau, Brandenburg was established in 2003 on the site of a former East German “kombinat”

Here, porcelain stoneware tiles are produced on the basis of the dictates of sustainability, which concretely means: recycling broken tiles, purifying the water used in the process, producing a portion of the electricity required with the area’s biggest photovoltaic installation, and obtaining supplies from local sources.

The focus is not only on the environment but also on the human being, with a training programme for youth and inclusion of differently-abled workers.

An important example of the close relationship between design and effective sustainability, the tiles are not only in the vanguard of design but also on the cutting-edge of technology on a human scale.
